Need some SERIOUS help with my exterior... disaster.
Comments (56)Like the idea of some third party coming over and pointing out some deficiencies and then just "ask what s/he meant by that" and that s/he was fairly adamant that these subs were not doing your build justice. By focusing on the subs, you can give MIL an out. How active is she at the site? Is it possible that she's simply not seen this? or is this a new crew from her usual folks, etc? Is your bank giving you draws? is their inspector someone that you can work with? or your banker? I have a good relationship with the inspector that is working for my bank. If he holds up a draw because the work isn't done (or is done VERY WRONG) things will get real and you'll HAVE TO address them - or else no one gets any money. That might be the most direct way. You have to address these - if you don't - even for the sake of "family peace" - it will rot your relationship like the water intrusion will rot your house....See MoreNeed Help Quckly on choosing Exterior Color and Landscape Help
Comments (3)It's not the kind of porch that is conducive to having a lot of planting in front of it. It needs a broad landing itself and a nice wide walk to it. The walk should stay at least 6' away, min,, from the house in order to leave sufficient room for foundation plantings. "Dark grey with white trim" sounds harsh to me.I like house colors in the medium grey/taupe range with white trim. They can have a tint of color so long as it is not too powerful. The fourth example down is nearly a reversal with the body being the light color and the trim darker, but I think it works well, the house being light grey, not white. Comments (12)Yeah, that car/garage/driveway is unfortunate. That’s all I can see. I can’t tell if there’s room to the right to move the driveway over. If there is, you could remove the pavement that goes right up to the French doors. All your windows/trim should match INCLUDING the French doors. Definitely remove the lights at the French doors. That just says “driveway.” Overall it looks like a charming well-kept little home....See Morecan my vision become a reality
Comments (20)Don't forget to consider rainwater and runoff drainage as you plan -- and do have a complete plan before you create any permanent feature. The quickest way to get to use your space is to build your raised patio floor and access to it first. You could also add a few raised areas within the planting area for large pots that would enable you to add plants that bloom but might not survive your winters. Unless you have a lot of shade solar lights might work -- at least to some degree. You might add a few on stakes or posts, at least until you get any wiring in place. The best way to ensure your plants survive is to use plants native to the area and suited to the climate. For electric lights, I'm guessing the wiring can be buried within the planting area and your husband already knows how he intends to access your power supply....See Morekandrewspa
