New USA rose introductions for 2022
Comments (7)Thank you, Ben! The new introductions this time of year help ease the disappointment of our growing season ending here in the US. Soeur Emmanuelle is the only one I'm familiar with. She's already taller than the stated size on HMF, reaching 5'+ at 1 yr old from a Palatine bare root. Mine is similar to most of the photos on HMF with clusters of blooms on long stems that start off as deep red buds, open to a rich rose pink that gradually lighten to pale pink. I don't believe the fading blooms is a negative, rather a feature of the rose. The various shades are very pretty on the bush. The form on mine is definitely hybrid tea, rather than shrub, right down to the sparse foliage toward the base, but that may stand out more to me than to those who are used to hybrid teas. Scent is often hard to detect in my climate, but her's is strong and lovely. I'll try posting my pics below. I'm having computer troubles or Houzz troubles tonight....See MoreProven Winners is going to have these two hosta available spring 2022
Comments (6)No, I have not heard of them. However, I'm usually happy with "proven winners" and those look like great hosta. They are on myhostas.be and on the hostalibrary, for better photos. Myhostas.be doesn't say anything. They are listed by name, not shadowland. bkay...See MoreNew David Austin Roses UK 2022 plus a rename...
Comments (19)So.... Elizabeth looks like it IS available in the U.S. now, but it doesn't show up in search results UNLESS you specifically type in the name in the search bar on their website and then click on the suggestion that pops down underneath it. The suggestion currently says "sold out" but it is not. This is so weird. It happens to other roses on their site (like Sister Elizabeth among others) wherein even if you search for "all roses" certain ones are excluded. But if you specifically type the name of the rose in their search bar, it shows up. I've emailed about this glitch several times, but it never seems to be fixed. Anyway, order Elizabeth if you wish! :)...See MoreWhat rose was your star of 2022?
Comments (72)I can echo the beauty and fragrance of Red Eden. It doesn't just bloom like crazy, it's that its blooms last for WEEKS. No kidding, weeks. Mine in PDX was completely disease free as well (even growing next to disease-ridden Dolly Parton rose). I do not think of this as a climber anymore--the canes are so thick and brittle it is really a large shrub. I moved mine off an obelisk after snapping several. BOLERO would likely be the rose I'd keep if I only had to keep one. It is so well-behaved, blooms non-stop (literally--always had a bloom on it, even in year one), it is wonderfully fragrant, has beautiful foliage...I bought three more just to be surrounded by it. What a stellar performer this....See MoreDave5bWY
