Stair runner on prefinished laminate stair treads?
Comments (9)Best solution would be to remove the laminate nosings and replace with a hardwood nosing, and install the carpet runner inset. That would save costs on the nosings- as they are typically 6' long, if you are only installing 6-8" on either side of the carpet runner you could potentially do 4-6 stairs with one piece....See MoreEntryway Rug, Runner & Stair Runner help
Comments (14)Thank you @everdebz! I’m new to the site so haven’t added any idea boards yet. I am actually going for a brighter look. Mix of contemporary/French/farmhouse. We will be renovating that living room you see from the foyer and it will have hardwood floors. We are not renovating the foyer but would like to tie in these styles. Kitchen and mud room on the side of the house will have these color schemes:...See MoreStair runner - design advice please
Comments (13)Don't know if your parents have any low vision issues as they age but if they do, be cognizant of that when you select a runner or stair treads. Advice from the American Academy of Ophthalmology: Stairs. Changes in the floor surface are one of the greatest fears of the visually impaired. Stairs should have a handrail, be well illuminated, and have minimal glare. Put a contrasting strip on the leading edge of each step; without that, the stairs can look like a ramp to a person with low vision. Stair treads naturally create a leading edge (nosing) as that part of the step is exposed and contrasts with the tread when using a tread that doesn't blend with the stair color. Certain patterned rugs e.g. horizontal or vertical stripes, obliterate the effect of a leading edge and make stairs very dangerous even for those without low vision. You may also want to consider some kind of wireless motion sensor stair lighting. Lots of options out there....See MoreHelp I hate the stair runner I installed
Comments (37)As you can see from the chaos that is my living room in the background my girls have been off of school for a few days. I couldn’t help myself and painted a test area the light gray I have in my kitchen (FB school house white). It changed which color tones in the runner were emphasized enough that I’m much less antagonistic about it. The hallway has needed painting since we had a pipe burst last year, so I think I’m going to go for it. I actually think I might love the color with the slate (a transitional neutral flooring material in my book). A lighter brighter gray would be pretty - but I already have this paint so here we are. I had ordered the dark stair rods, but have appreciated all of the advice regarding them so TBD. I would love to post more pictures of the stair/hallway areas (really most of my house because your replies are so stellar with insight and ideas) but need a full day of school to get the place looking respectable again😆 Thank you everyone for your time and help!! The encouragement and debate are invaluable....See MoreJay J
