Comments (10)I find most people allow themselves to feel helpless when it comes to photography. Put it in your head that anyone can do it. As for me. I use natural light, as most do. But I use a technique called the Rembrandt Lighting technique. It'll make anything look great. However, I do use a HIGH f-stop number (very small aperture) and therefore a long exposure. Because of this, I use a tripod. The speed, as mentioned before should not be very high. The light I use is relatively low light and so a 2-400 speed works great. If you do take the photo outside, be careful... whites will wash out very easily-- even under a sky full of clouds. So if you have a high contrast (red on white) type of flower you will quickly lose detail in the white and chances are, the other color will suffer from underexposure, making the whole shot pretty lame. This is why I use the Rembrandt technique INSIDE, but without artificial light (which will make the shot look yellow--yuck). The high F-stop number allows more of the flower to be in focus. low f-stop number creates a greater depth of field and will make some very nice parts of the flower be soft and out of focus-- you don't want that! Another tip-- use the delayed shutter release function on your camera or a remote shutter release to prevent shake. One last thing, to properly meter a shot, you can use a neutral gray card to get the proper exposure. Once you get really familiar with your camera, the card isn't as crucial because you begin to anticipate what the shot will require. finally, practice, practice, practice. An example-- Ryan...See MoreHelp Name A Photography Co........
Comments (13)"Picture This" What a fun business to go into! Tell her to think about doing sports/activity photos. That is HUGE business around here. Every sport my kid is in - they have a picture taken. Soccer-Volleyball-Basketball-Swim Team-Dance-Track-Baseball-Softball-Football -- eh.. You get the picture? LOL! I don't buy one every time - but I do get quite a few. Usually it is an individual picture and a team picture for around $13.00 Wish I had the type of camera to get into this. I love my camera, but I don't want to put the $$$ into the cameras, lights, equipment, etc. it takes for a pro. Going into the business would be a great way to pay for it though! I have added a link to one of my favorite photographers - oh she does great work! She is very creative and very nice! Might give your DD some idea on prices, etc. too. Comments (3)As a wedding planner I would also add that the flowers in the bouquets should contrast with the dresses so they show up in the photos. Dark dresses need light colored flowers and lighter dresses need brighter and darker flowers. In the scenario above with the dark velvet dresses in the dark church, dark flowers would have disappeared into the dresses and not been visible. I had a winter bride who chose charcoal gray dresses and bouquets of deep red roses. The flowers were beautiful, but they couldn't be seen by the guests or in the photos. Comments (4)Those are really interesting. Amazing how much is the same in those pictures. Death and the Civil War is on American Experience on PBS (tonight for me). I have my DVR set to tape it, it looks very interesting. The sheer amount of deaths is astounding. That and the fact is they really don't know how many died.
